ur main goal is to explore and find the effects 2 complete the game if ur talking about ur buddy beside u tho its an npc u can kill it when u get the knife effect tho good luck on ur yume nikki journey
how do you find effects tho? the game says that u need to find characters and hit the enter key but im assuming not all npcs give you effects? and then if u get an effect from an npc does it appear automatically in the menu?? or is there something else you need to do

when u get an effect a lil message bar will pop up saying the name of the effect and from there you can open the menu and use the effect. as for getting the effects, your best bet is to click on any npcs/objects you think may be an effect unless u want to cheat and look up the locations of them.
also, not all worlds that you enter will have an effect, but they'lll have either an event for you to witness or a pathway to another world.
